Every Loreto Studio bread knife is made to order in our small Wisconsin workshop.

Each knife starts as a two-tone layered bamboo panel — cross-laminated for strength, with dark outer faces and a lighter natural core. The bread loaf is carved into the handle first. If it's a custom knife, your text is carved into the bow. Then each knife is cut out and freed from the panel by hand.

Every edge is hand-routed and sanded smooth — no sharp corners, no rough spots. Each knife is finished with food-grade mineral oil and the blade is installed by hand before it ships.

This isn't mass produced. It's made one at a time, for the baker who earned it.

Care Instructions

Hand wash only. Do not submerge or put in the dishwasher. Dry immediately after washing. Re-oil occasionally with food-grade mineral oil to keep the bamboo hydrated.

    After baking, wait at least 1 hour. Cutting into a hot loaf releases moisture and ruins the crumb before the knife ever touches it.

  • 2. Position with Intention

    Place the loaf on a stable cutting board. Hold it gently — you're guiding, not gripping.

  • 3. Start at the Crust

    Use the full length of the blade with light forward pressure. Let the serration catch the crust before committing to the stroke.

  • 4. Let the Bow Do the Work

    Long, smooth forward-back strokes. No downward force. The curve carries the blade through the crumb without compressing it.
